Meet The Designer

Life is about having great experiences and Lord knows that I have had many. I’m not going to talk about the stuff you already know, I’m going to talk about things you may not know about me as an individual. My childhood wasn’t perfect, but it was good. Being raised in a community made up of black entrepreneurs and professionals gave me a clear outlook on life. My family were mostly blue collar middle class people. They supported and encouraged me to pursue my dreams at a young age. My Mother had her own business and sewing was her hobby. Our connection was clothes. She exposed me to the fashion world by taking me to fashion shows at local malls. We both had a personal shopper at a major department store. There is where I learned about styling clothes. As a woman, I give my Mom a lot of credit for investing in my future.

My Grandfather had his own construction business and later in my young adult life invested into my modeling career. This small investment went a long way. It wasn’t easy, but I had the opportunity to operate independently as a model. I was featured on TV and billboards representing major businesses. My personal claim to fame was becoming part of the legendary “Jet Beauty of the Week.” To be honest, my Grandfather wasn’t satisfied until he saw me on TV and in Jet. Later, when I began to retire from modeling and move into starting a new business. His advice was to start one by myself. Of course, I didn’t listen. Lol!!! Lesson learned. I give him credit for his honesty.

The transition from modeling into the business world allowed me the opportunity to compete in major swimsuit competitions. Mainly on the prelim level. This opportunity was a true coming of age into grown womanhood. The overall experience for me was that I had the opportunity to travel and meet successful business owners in different areas of the United States. I developed a new level of confidence. Also, I had the opportunity to become a director. The timing wasn’t right.

Some people may consider my life to be very untraditional. A single, never been married woman with no children “wild” and free. WAIT!!! Why is it anyone’s business in the first place? Honestly, I don’t care what people think.

Let’s get into it shall we? After, I decided to get more serious about entering the business world as a designer. Words can not express how amazing it’s been and interesting. It all started by me just taking a chance. God placed the right people in my life to help it get started. One person asked, “What’s my most defining moment?” I say every moment, all of it!

The next chapter will bring so much more. I’m back in Georgia in my hometown of Marietta. This time I’m going to have some fun with this chapter. Oh! And…… yes we are planning a Georgia Queen Clothing Affair.
