As the tradition continued this past Saturday, I was in Memphis attending my friends wedding as her Maid of Honor and what an honor. I wasn’t able to watch the Kentucky Derby or catch up on any of the fabulous fashions, but instead I was able to take some shots of the wedding and this one above at the Airbnb in Idlewild. The dress was purchased in Nashville at The Showroom event hosted by Well Dressed Nashville. You know your girl had to create a look to celebrate the tradition. Oh! The hat is a vintage design by the same designer who made my hat worn in last years photos. How cool is that?!!

Years ago, I attended an African Pageant and remembered seeing a sea of colorful head wraps and thinking to myself, “Wow! This looks like church hats.” My friend Michelle wedding was the same experience, but more….. The Memphis Botanical Gardens was filled with a sea of African head wraps and Church/Derby hats. What a beautiful sight to see a combination of cultures.

Speaking of church hats! I’ve had the pleasure of communicating with a Hat Designer out of Memphis. Head designer, Jena, is the founder of Church Derby Hats and Vinzetta Millinery. Her hats have been published in various national magazines and featured on television shows such as Empire and the Today Show. I can not wait to wear a custom hat designed by her for next year’s event.
